Travel information As you prepare for your trip to another country, it is essential to consider information such as travel warnings, how to get money while you are abroad, health precautions and more. UD's Center for International Programs provides useful travel information on these pages including those advisories issued by the U.S. State Department, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO). For University-sponsored and organized instructional programs, in countries for which the U.S. State Department has issued a travel warning, or the CDC and/or WHO has issued a travel warning, the University may suspend programs to those countries. Travel advisories and warnings Banking abroad To address any international circumstance, UD has an International Response Team (IRT) which is a group of individuals who are prepared to act in any situation affecting both our international students here on campus and our faculty, staff and students overseas. Passports Students will require a passport for participation in any education abroad program. Passport photos are available in the Campus One Card office (located in the Powerhouse). Passport applications require an original or certified copy of your birth certificate, and a $100 fee (cost is subject to change); applications can be submitted to a number of post offices in the Dayton area. Allow at least six weeks for processing. Applications and details are also available online at http://travel.state.gov/ If you already have a passport and it will expire while you are overseas, it must be renewed before departure. Your passport is the only official proof that you are an American citizen and should be protected as your most valuable document! Study abroad participants who are not U.S. citizens should consult the conditions of their U.S. visa regarding departure and reentry, as well as their country’s consulate office in the U.S. Make two copies of your passport. Leave one with your family in the States and keep one in your luggage in case you lose your passport. The copy will be very helpful in getting a replacement from the U.S. Embassy or Consulate. Visas — Information about entry requirements (i.e. visas, immunizations, additional fees, etc.) for travel to other countries can be found online at http://embassy.org. Some countries require tourist visas for American citizens. In most cases, the Center for International Programs will assist with obtaining visas for each student participating in a University program where an entry visa is necessary. For additional information, contact the country’s consulate or tourist board for visa or travel specifics.
