Health insurance and medical services University of Dayton Health Insurance >> Alternative health insurance >> Students who entered the US or who are currently in the US on an F-1 or J-1 visa obtained using documentation from the University of Dayton—an I-20 or DS-2019—are required to have medical insurance. If you are not sure about your health insurance requirement, please contact the Center for International Programs immediately. The Center for International Programs maintains information on a variety of insurance plans. This includes material on a health plan offered through a group policy by the University of Dayton. The CIP also has material from several other US insurance companies that specialize in health insurance for international students. You may also choose to have insurance coverage from a policy you bought in your home country or a policy that your parents bought for you as long as that policy provides coverage in the United States. If you already have health coverage or if you will purchase health insurance now that you are in the United States, you must provide proof of that coverage to the Center for International Programs. Failure to provide evidence of this coverage will result in the Center for International Programs enrolling you automatically in the plan administered through the University of Dayton. If the CIP is forced to do this, your student account will be charged for the insurance premium and assessed an additional service charge of $50.00. The last day for students to submit evidence of insurance coverage to the Center for International Programs (for the spring 2007 term) was Friday, January 12, 2007 After this date, you will be enrolled in the UD Student Health Insurance Plan for the winter 2007 semester and your students account will be billed for the premium plus the $50.00 service charge. Please contact the Center for International Programs if you have questions or would like information about other insurance plans. NOTE: Students must submit evidence of insurance coverage to the Center for International Programs as soon as they arrive on campus. If a student does not show evidence of insurance upon arrival, he or she will be enrolled in the UD Student Health Insurance Plan for the semester and the student's account will be billed for the premium plus the $50.00 service charge. Medical services The Dayton area has several hospitals, medical clinics and doctors available for assisting students. Should you become ill during your time at the University, we will help you find a doctor or medical facility, set up an appointment, and provide transportation. We can also search for a doctor who speaks your native language. The University of Dayton Health Center is free to all full-time undergraduate students. For a fee, full-time graduate students and students in the Intensive English Program are eligible for the student accident and sickness insurance plan, which protects students at school, at home, while traveling and during vacations. Counseling The experience of living in another country and studying at a foreign university can be one of the most unique and rewarding experiences of a person's life. However, the transition can cause some students to experience culture shock. The University’s counseling staff is available to help you if you have any personal problems or concerns. We also maintain solid relations with local professionals. In addition, the staff of the Center for International Programs are also available to offer help and guidance at any time. |
