Living in Dayton

Dayton, Ohio, is located in the Midwestern United States. Approximately 950,000 people live in the Dayton metropolitan area, a center of technology and industry. The city is a magnet for technological development and is home to corporations such as NCR, Standard Register and LexisNexis. It is also home to the U.S. Air Force's major research center at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.

Dayton is an affordable city — housing, food, transportation and entertainment cost considerably less in Dayton than in other U.S. cities.

Dayton is a diverse community of many religions and cultures, and students are likely to find a local group that represents their home culture. The annual World A’Fair and many other cultural celebrations, such as the Lebanese, German, Greek and Asian festivals, take place throughout the year offering students opportunities to connect with the wider community.

State ID cards:
State ID cards may be obtained fro the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) for the cost of $8.50. Take your passport and visa, DS-2019, and I-94 card to the BMV to obtain an ID card. The BMV is located in Dayton at 451 West Third Street, Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. Contact them at (937) 225-4480 ext. 625.

Note: A social security number is NOT required to obtain an ID or a Driver's License in the state of Ohio. Many of the resources you encounter may state that the SSN is required to obtain a license or an ID card, but this only applies if the individual has been issued an SSN.
